The Rhode Island Red is an American breed of domestic chicken. The state bird of Rhode Island, it was developed there and in Massachusetts in the late nineteenth century, by cross-breeding birds of Oriental origin such as the Malay with brown Leghorn birds from Italy.
The roosters usually weigh in at about 4kg, the hens average slightly less at 3kg.
Rhode Island Red chickens are known for its hardiness, good egg-laying abilities, and attractive deep mahogany red colour. They are fairly docile birds, not prone to fighting and live together well in large and small flocks alike.
A true dual-purpose breed the Rhode Island Red’s meat is rich and flavoursome. They excel in producing 200-300 eggs per year. A real all rounder!
We only release our Rhode Island Reds at a minimum age of three months. Prices start at 800 pesos per head. Delivery can be arranged (at cost) throughout Bohol.
