The Orpington is a British breed of chicken. It was bred in the late nineteenth century by William Cook of Orpington, Kent in the south-east of England. It was intended to be a dual-purpose breed, to be reared both for eggs and for meat.
The Gold Laced variety were originally created by Jobst Veltheim In the 1960’s and remain, in our view at least, one of the most beautiful breeds of chicken.
Another big bird, Orpington roosters weight in at around 4.5kg with the hens not too far behind at an average of 3.9kg.
The Gold Laced Orpington is a remarkably friendly bird. They are easy to handle and surprisingly very quiet! Their beautiful feathers make them highly prized at shows throughout Europe and beyond.
They are almost too pretty to eat but the meat of the Orpington chicken is tender, juicy and of fine flavour. The skin is white, thin and tender. The eggs are relatively large and brown in colour. Hens produce on average 200-280 eggs a year.
We only release our Gold Laced Orpingtons at a minimum age of three months. Prices start at 3000 pesos per head. Delivery can be arranged (at cost) throughout Bohol.
